Extense is designed to help you track expenses automatically while keeping your financial information on your device.
When you enable Notification Access, Extense can read payment and banking notifications so it can identify transactions and prepare expense or income entries for you.
Extense may process notification information such as:
Transaction amount
Merchant or recipient name
Sender information
Transaction type
Payment-related text needed to identify the transaction
This information is used only to provide automatic transaction detection and expense tracking features.
Extense processes notification data locally on your device.
We do not operate a server that receives or stores your banking or payment notification content.
Your notification data is not uploaded to Extense for analysis, advertising, profiling, or marketing.
Notification Access is completely optional.
You can:
Enable or disable Notification Access at any time from Android settings.
Review, edit, or ignore a detected transaction.
Disable automatic transaction detection whenever you choose.
Extense does not automatically send your notification data anywhere just because you grant Notification Access.
If you choose to use the backup feature, Extense can save your expense and transaction records to your selected Google Drive account.
Backups are user-controlled and are separate from notification processing. Raw bank/payment notifications are not uploaded as part of the automatic detection feature.
Notification Access is required because Android provides payment information to Extense through notifications rather than through direct access to your bank's internal systems.
This permission allows Extense to identify transactions such as:
“Spent ₹500 at Chennai Silks”
“Sent ₹1,000 to Kailash”
“BALAJI S paid you ₹30”
and turn them into transaction suggestions.
Extense is built with a local-first approach. Your financial information should stay under your control, and Notification Access is requested only to provide the automatic transaction detection feature.
You can safely enable Notification Access knowing that Extense processes this notification information locally on your device and does not send it to an Extense server.
