Plot Summary: Sammy Jaye interviews celebrities including Meghan Trainor, Ke$ha, Wayne Brady, and astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse-Tyson. She talks to them about their art, music or movies, as well as pertinent issues that they are passionate about. The Ke$ha interview included a discussion about her teenage years in high school, feeling anxiety, and her creative process while recording her latest album.
Author Background: Sammy Jaye is the youngest person to ever have their own public podcast on iHeart Radio Podcasts. She was seventeen when she started the podcast. She has been interviewing people since she was thirteen years old (Apple Podcasts Preview, n.d.).
Critical Evaluation: In general, although I appreciate what they do, I don't pay much attention to what celebrities do in their private lives. So I wan'st sure if I would enjoy this podcast. However, almost everyone, including me, is in agreement that Sammy Jaye is an amazing interviewer. Her questions are spot on, and her ability to hold her audience while keeping up with her famous guests is impressive. I don't even know how anyone would be able to get them on the show, but she does! And holds her own in the interview! Over all, the podcast has a rating of 4.2/5 (Apple Podcasts Review, n.d.).
Creative Use for a Library Program: Do you have a favorite celebrity? Have you ever wanted to talk to them and ask them questions? Interviewing skills can be used in many different situations from podcasts, journalism, TV news hosts and others. The library is going to have a Teen Living Library event where you can interview your peers and library staff. Suggested questions will be provided, but don't be afraid to get off script and give your interview your own spin!
Speed-Round Podcast Talk or Short Podcast Trailer: Sammy Jaye is a Gen-Z podcast host that talks to some of your favorite stars! Listen to Let's Be Real with Sammy Jaye to learn all about them and how they produce the movies, shows, and music you love!
Potential Challenge Issues and Defense Preparation: Some people like to consume what celebrities produce i.e. watching movies or listening to music. But they will immediately say that the famous person should "stay in their lane" as soon as they start talking about politics, activism, or another subject that person finds objectionable. All people should be able to express and be exposed to different ideas. Just because a celebrity is being interviewed doesn't mean that they should be stuck talking about one thing.
Reason for Inclusion: I don't listen to podcasts very much, but after looking up a list of podcasts for teens, i knew I wanted to include at least one. Celebrities play a big role in non-print items that teens enjoy. A podcast that includes deeper conversations with famous people seemed ideal to include.
