Exodus Web3 Wallet: A Guide to Web3 and Self-Custody
Exodus Web3 Wallet: A Guide to Web3 and Self-Custody
The Exodus Web3 Wallet was designed to give users a convenient way to access decentralized applications, manage supported digital assets, and interact with Web3 through a browser. As a self-custody wallet, Exodus placed control of wallet credentials in the hands of the user rather than maintaining custody of the user's assets.
However, users searching for Exodus Web3 Wallet should be aware of an important current change: support for the Exodus Web3 Wallet browser extension ended on October 1, 2026. New users can no longer install the extension, and an installed extension can no longer be used for sending, receiving, or viewing balances.
Exodus Web3 Wallet was a browser extension designed to connect users with decentralized applications, DeFi services, NFTs, and other Web3 platforms. It supported multiple blockchain networks and allowed users to manage supported assets through a browser-based interface.
The wallet followed a self-custody model. This meant users were responsible for protecting their wallet's secret key and private information.
The Web3 Wallet supported numerous networks, including Ethereum, Solana, Bitcoin, Arbitrum, Avalanche C-Chain, Base, BNB Smart Chain, Cardano, Optimism, and Polygon. Network availability could vary by feature.
Before discontinuation, the wallet allowed users to connect with supported dApps and Web3 applications directly through a compatible browser.
Users could send, receive, swap, and manage supported crypto assets from the wallet interface.
Exodus describes its wallets as self-custody products, meaning users control their secret keys and are responsible for securing them.
The former Web3 Wallet was available as a Chrome-based extension and could be installed through supported browsers such as Chrome and Brave.
Greater Wallet Control: Self-custody gives users direct responsibility for their wallet credentials and assets.
Web3 Accessibility: The browser extension provided a convenient gateway to supported decentralized applications.
Multi-Network Management: Users could interact with assets across several supported blockchain networks.
Integrated Wallet Experience: Exodus offered related desktop and mobile wallet products alongside its Web3 offering.
Simple User Interface: Exodus has historically focused on making cryptocurrency management accessible to both newer and experienced users.
Because the browser extension has been discontinued, existing users should not uninstall it before securing their 12-word secret key if they still need access to that information. Exodus states that users with the extension installed can view their secret key, while uninstalling it means they will no longer be able to view the key or reinstall the extension.
Users who already held assets in the Web3 Wallet can restore their wallet using the 12-word secret key in Exodus Mobile or another compatible wallet. Exodus also lists several third-party wallets that may support particular networks and Web3 connections.
Your secret key is extremely sensitive. Never share it with another person, website, or supposed support representative. Anyone who obtains the secret key may gain access to the associated funds.
When moving assets to another wallet, verify the destination address carefully and use only software obtained from trustworthy sources. Be especially cautious of websites claiming to offer a replacement Exodus browser extension.
Is Exodus Web3 Wallet still available?
No. Exodus ended support for its Web3 Wallet browser extension on October 1, 2026, and new users can no longer install it.
Can existing users still use the extension?
No. Exodus states that sending, receiving, and viewing balances through the discontinued extension are no longer available.
How can I access funds from my old Web3 Wallet?
You can use the 12-word secret key to restore the wallet in Exodus Mobile or another compatible wallet that supports the relevant assets and networks.
What should I do before uninstalling the extension?
If you still have it installed and need access to your wallet, securely record your 12-word secret key before uninstalling.
The Exodus Web3 Wallet was built as a self-custody gateway to Web3, offering multi-chain asset management and dApp connectivity through a browser. Although the browser extension has now been discontinued, existing users can continue managing their funds by securely recovering their wallet through supported alternatives. The most important step is protecting the 12-word secret key and avoiding unofficial websites or replacement extensions that may attempt to steal wallet credentials.
