The good question:

“Where are my photos and videos ?”

You may own documents in different places:

- In www.icloud.com (limited by the storage plan you have)

- In your iOS devices (in high and/or low definition)

- In one or various Photo libraries of your Mac (in high and/or low definition)

- In various folders of your Mac

- In your other devices

At this point, none of these places can be considered as THE reference place where to find all your photos/videos.

If you can't answer with certainty to the question "Where are my photos and videos ?", you should consider grouping all your files in a folder on your Mac, and use "Exif Photoworker" to delete the duplicates, rename and organize all those files in order to initiate the creation of a unique reference place for all your photos and videos.

How to…

Group all your existing photos/videos in a unique folder

1: Create a folder named "BUNCH" that will receive all your actual photos/videos and a folder named "Organized photos ans videos" into the "Pictures" folder of your account.

2: Export all the photos/videos of your iPhoto/Photos libraries.

Open your iPhoto/Photos library, select all the photos/videos (cmd-A) and choose menu "File > Export" to export all your originals files to a folder, and quit iPhoto/Photos.

• Place the folder containing the exported documents in the "BUNCH" folder.

Repeat the operation for every library.

3: Download all the photos/videos placed on your devices.

Connect your device (iPhone/SD card…) directly to your Mac (with an USB cable, card reader) and open "Applications / Utilities / Image Capture.app" to download your documents.

Or upload your photos/videos via a cloud service and next download them to your Mac.

Or upload your photos/videos directly to your Mac using PhotoSync fors iOS and macOS: PhotoSync

• Place the documents (or the folders containing documents) in the "BUNCH" folder (one folder per device).

4: Drag all your other photos/videos or folders containing photos/videos into the "BUNCH" folder.

5: Download all your photos/videos placed on iCloud (if you are not sure to have the original items in a Library)

Connect to your iCloud account and download your photos/videos (by series of 1000 items): https://www.icloud.com

Or ask a copy of all your photos: Even if this request can take up to 2 weeks, it is probably the best choice if you have lots of photos:

• Unzip the documents downloaded (if needed) and place them in a sub-folder of the "BUNCH" folder.

• After download, remember to :

Delete all the photos/videos of your iCloud account:
- From your Mac: Apple Menu ► System Preferences ► iCloud ► Manage… ► Photo Library ► Disable and Delete
- From your iOS device: Settings ► General ► Storage & iCloud Usage ► ICLOUD : Manage Storage ► PHOTOS : iCloud Photo Library ► Disable and delete
Get back to the free 5 GB storage plan:
- From your Mac: Apple Menu ► System Preferences ► iCloud > Manage…
- From your iOS device: Settings ► General ► Storage & iCloud Usage ► ICLOUD : Manage Storage ► PHOTOS : iCloud Photo Library ► Change Storage Plan
Disable the "iCloud Photo Library" setting on all your iOS and macOS devices:
- From your Mac: Apple Menu ► System Preferences ► iCloud > Photos: settings
- From your iOS device: Settings ► "Apple ID, iCloud, Itunes & App Store…" ► iCloud > Photos

6: Launch "Exif Photoworker" and…

- Choose the "BUNCH" folder as the source folder (remember to check box "Include all subfolders"),

- Choose the "Organized photos ans videos" folder as the destination folder,

- Click on "Rename and organize": Please be patient, this can take a while (depending from the number of files)

This is a real-time video of a group of 870 photos, the removal of 638 duplicates and the renaming and organization of 232 photos ( MacBook Pro Core i7 at 2,2 GHz)

You can jump from 10 min 15 sec to 21 min 10 sec to speed up the video.

A such operation is usually made only once. If you have tens of thousands of photos, you can launch this operation overnight ( in such case, think setting the cursor of "Energy saver" to "Never") .

You can slightly accelerate the app by launching a simple AppleScript called "Script to accelerate the runtime" placed in the folder of the app.
