With the Currencies data type you can easily get and compare exchange rates from around the world. In this article, you'll learn how to enter currency pairs, convert them into a data type, and extract more information for robust data.
Enter the currency pair in a cell using this format: From Currency / To Currency with the ISO currency codes.
For example, enter "USD/EUR" to get the exchange rate from one United States Dollar to Euros.

With the cells still selected, go to the Data tab and select the Currencies data type.
If Excel finds a match between the currency pair and our data provider, your text will convert to a data type and you'll see the Currencies icon in the cell.
You'll see a list of all the fields available to choose from. Select the fields to add a new column of data.
For example, Price represents the exchange rate for the currency pair, Last Trade Time represents the time the exchange rate was quoted.
I would like to know how to use PAD to extract daily exchange rates using the websites historical data tables when a date is selected and then extracting that data into excel, either using the Get Data function or copy and pasting the table into an excel sheet.
You can work directly with this URL instead of having to select currency and date each time you want to update your data. Create your query in Excel / Power Query then tweak it in Advanced Editor so date becomes a parameter you inform:

Just found the error I made and I have accepted your first response as the soultion. Basically at Stage 3 Convert datetime to text I had changed round the text using format to dd-MM-yyyy (UK date formatting) having noticed that XE's URL was yyyy-MM-dd I changed it back as this was your original instruction.

Excel has the function to bring in Exchange Rates "live" with a circa 15 minutes delay, which works fine; however, does anybody know how to cause Excel to being in exchange rates by dates, so that I can create a list of USD/GBP Close Rates which automatically update?
The base data is from a general ledger account with around 1.5million transaction rows. I also have an exchange rate table with exchange rates per currency per month. The requirement from the finance team is for them to be able to dynamicaly select 1 or multiple periods (year and month) from the data and see the transaction amounts in GBP using the last exchange rate in the selected period. So if they filter the report to show periods 1,2 and 3 for 2019 they expect all transactions from these three periods to be converted to GBP using the rate as at period 3.
