Now that the assessment is complete, you need to provide Joanne with feedback.
Where should you do this?
In a private location where others cannot hear your conversation
In a private location with her manager present
On the telephone or by email
Anywhere Joanne feels comfortable
Feedback should be shared in a private location where your conversation cannot be overheard.
Your feedback should:
confirm clearly that she has been unsuccessful in demonstrating competency in her knowledge-based evidence
identify what she has done well
explain what is required to improve in her knowledge-based evidence
identify next steps (more support/reassessment)
Your feedback should be supportive and encouraging in order to promote confidence and positivity.
What should your feedback include?
Joanne listens to your feedback and is pleased with your assessment of her skills but she disagrees with your decision relating to her knowledge-based evidence. She thinks that her dyslexia adjustments were not supported.
What should you do?
Choose two options then check your answer.
Agree with line manager the correct support for Joanne and plan going forward
Review the support given to Joanne prior to assessment
Change your assessment decision
Tell her your decision is final, but she will be given another opportunity to demonstrate her knowledge soon
1, 2 and 3
Ensuring that all of your assessment documentation and assessment decisions support the five key principles of assessment will help to make sure that all of your assessment decisions are clear and transparent to anyone who accesses them.
You explain to Joanne that you need to review the support she was given prior to assessment and speak to her manager to ensure she gets the support she needs going forward in order to successfully complete the Care Certificate.
Evidencing assessment decisions
Joanne accepts your decision and you explain that you will reassess her when she is happy that she has received the support she needs.
You now need to document your assessment decisions.
Why is this important?
Your feedback documentation will form part of her record of achievement during her induction.
It will also show how your assessment activities have led to your decision.
This record can then be used to record further training and learning as Joanne continues with her career.
