All staff needs to complete the care certificate as part of their induction process into The XL Team.
Staff will need to complete all 15 standards of the care certificate via the online learning pathway and be signed off by a supervisor or above to demonstrate that they meet the minimum requirements.
On completion of the modules, employees will arrange a meeting with a supervisor, who will conduct supervision with the employee throughout this supervision, supervisors will work through the assessor competence record and demonstrations with the employee.
Supervisors are asked to use previous supervisions, clinical reviews, records of learning, and conversations to assess the knowledge and skills required by each standard employees need to demonstrate a sound and basic understanding of each standard.
Instructions
1. Check that the employee has completed all of the e-learning assessments.
A) Multiple entries may have been made to gain the pass mark. (Ctrl F – allows you to search a person’s name)
2. Make a copy of the assessor competence record.
A) Rename the document.
B) Fill in your details and date.
C) Fill in the competency workbook and date and initial each assessed.
3. If you agree the employee has gained all necessary knowledge and is deemed fully competent, please issue the certificate using this link.

4. Place the completed form into the “completed assessor form” folder.
Response folder and Assessor competency record
The response folder contains employees’ responses (Scores) to all 15 assessments of the care certificate, the assessor record has a set standard of competencies that demonstrate via multiple methods that the employee can use to demonstrate that they fully understand the standard.
Staff are not deemed as competent just because they complete e-learning.
FAQ’s
An employee has already completed the care certificate in a previous job role.
If an employee has previously completed the care certificate – supervisors are requested to see their certificate and reassess the employee to ensure that they still demonstrate the outcomes. If you believe the employee is still competent then please reissue the employee with a XL Team certificate. If the employee struggles to explain or lacks competency, particularly in the areas of safeguarding, infection control, and health and safety – then get the employee to refresh their knowledge and arrange a further meeting to reassess.
An employee has completed all learning modules but lacks understanding.

An employee has not completed all learning modules
If an employee has not completed all modules, they can not be signed off as competent.
An employee has not completed the certificate within 16 weeks
If an employee takes longer than 16 weeks, supervisors are requested to work with the employee to enable them to complete the certificate. The 16 weeks is a standard time frame some employees will complete the certificate before this timeframe other may need support and guidance to help complete modules.

The care certificate is designed to underpin the basics of health and social care to employees and is designed to be as user-friendly as possible, however, if staff ask questions that you feel you are unable to fully answer. Please refer the question to someone within the senior management team.
