Introduction
Having the background knowledge and skills to undertake the management of the newborn infant is essential when initiating resuscitation at birth.
It is also crucial to be able to transfer these resuscitation skills and knowledge to the postnatal period in the event of the rapid deterioration of an infant.
Qualified professionals such as midwives, doctors or neonatal nurses who work with newborn infants on a regular basis may be expected to complete a Resuscitation Council UK Neonatal Life Support course (RC NLS). This resuscitation session does not replace the RC NLS course. After completion of this session, you are expected to have a practical assessment of the resuscitation elements conducted by your neonatal resuscitation trainer or Practice Education team.
