Summary
Acute asthma may rapidly deteriorate into a life-threatening emergency.
Rapid treatment is vital to prevent cardiac arrest. In asthmatic cardiac arrest, suspect tension pneumothorax.
In life-threatening asthma, oxygenation and adrenaline IM should be administered immediately.
"Acute severe asthma" is probably the most common presentation for pre-hospital clinicians.
