You should be swabbing your instruments after every use! Once a week or so, wash the swab with warm water and soap.

Make sure you're removing your reed from your mouthpiece after every single use! Don't let it sit there!

Brass Baths

Valved Instruments

1. Put a towel on the bottom of your bathtub, and fill it with warm (NOT HOT) water and some dish soap.
2. Take all the parts on your instrument apart EXCEPT YOUR VALVES and set in the tub
   1. Keep the top part of your valves completely dry
   2. Swish the bottom part of valves in warm, soapy water. Lay on a towel to dry.
3. Scrub out mouthpiece and all small parts (NOT VALVES). Lay to dry.
4. Use snake to clean out tubes of instrument. Lay to dry.
5. Let all parts air-dry for a few hours.
6. Oil valves and grease slides.
7. Reassemble instrument.

Trombones

1. Put a towel on the bottom of your bathtub, and fill it with warm (NOT HOT) water and some dish soap.
2. Take all the parts on your instrument apart and GENTLY set in tub with warm, soapy water. (BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH BOTH PARTS OF YOUR SLIDE)
3. Scrub out mouthpiece and all small parts. Lay to dry.
4. Use snake to clean out tubes of instrument. Lay to dry.
5. Let parts air-dry for a few hours.
6. Grease tuning slide and oil main slide (BE CAREFUL).
7. Reassemble instrument.
