You should be swabbing your instruments after every use! Once a week or so, wash the swab with warm water and soap.
Make sure you're removing your reed from your mouthpiece after every single use! Don't let it sit there!

- Put a towel on the bottom of your bathtub, and fill it with warm (NOT HOT) water and some dish soap.
- Take all the parts on your instrument apart EXCEPT YOUR VALVES and set in the tub
- Keep the top part of your valves completely dry
- Swish the bottom part of valves in warm, soapy water. Lay on a towel to dry.
- Scrub out mouthpiece and all small parts (NOT VALVES). Lay to dry.
- Use snake to clean out tubes of instrument. Lay to dry.
- Let all parts air-dry for a few hours.
- Oil valves and grease slides.
- Reassemble instrument.
- Put a towel on the bottom of your bathtub, and fill it with warm (NOT HOT) water and some dish soap.
- Take all the parts on your instrument apart and GENTLY set in tub with warm, soapy water. (BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL WITH BOTH PARTS OF YOUR SLIDE)
- Scrub out mouthpiece and all small parts. Lay to dry.
- Use snake to clean out tubes of instrument. Lay to dry.
- Let parts air-dry for a few hours.
- Grease tuning slide and oil main slide (BE CAREFUL).
- Reassemble instrument.
