Publications

Dr. Kwang Suk Ko studied at Korea University for Bachelor and Master degrees for animal nutrition major, especially toxicity of nitrate on thyroid metabolism. After these, he was accepted to the Graduate Group in Nutritional Biology at the University of California Davis and revealed the basic biochemical mechanisms of taurine deficiency in dogs, which causes dilated cardiomyopathy. With the interest in sulfur-containing amino acid and its metabolites such as taurine and S-adenosylmethionine, Dr. Ko pursued the molecular mechanisms of developing liver cancer at Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California as a post-doctoral research associate. Dr Ko is now serving his duties at Ewha Womans University. 

His current research interests are 1) regulation of cancer development by prohibitin1 (Phb1) gene in liver, 2) S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) and its synthesizing genes, methionine adenosyltransferases (MAT) as liver cancer regulators, 3) glutathione metabolism in liver disease as an antioxidant and xenotoxic sequester, and 4) genetic manipulation to develop optimal liver cancer animal models.
