Jason Simonsen - Owner/Adviser
In 1986 at the age of 14 Jason was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus (Water on the Brain) a birth defect that changed the course of this young athlete’s life forever. After 9 surgeries over the course of a year and a half Jason took to student managing his HS football team to stay active with his friends and to be around one of the sports he loved.
After HS Jason went on to major in marketing and advertising after college Jason relocated to Norfolk Nebraska to Manage and promote AMF Kings Lanes and Entertainment Center a multipurpose center which included a 32 lane bowling alley, a 4plex movie theater, pool hall and night club. While working for AMF Jason was instrumental in the formation of the Norfolk HS Boys and Girls Bowling teams in the Nebraska HS Bowling association.
In 1996 Jason relocated to Topeka KS once again looking to be involved in the action of the city, luck had it that a Semi pro hockey team was going to call the Capital City home. The Topeka Scarecrows reignited Jason’s love for the game of Hockey and the interest of being involved anyway he could… Fast forward, after a few teams in the Capital City Jason and Mike joined forces to create Topeka Hockey ’07 a grass roots effort to retain the right ownership and team to relocate to Topeka and be successful for years to come.
This year marks the tenth year of that franchise here in Topeka. The Santa Fe RoadRunners of the NAHL relocated to Topeka KS on the recommendation of two Sports enthusiasts who now call Topeka Home. Since then many players have come and gone but one thing remains a constant… Jason and Mikes love for the game and the players who play it...
Jason was quoted in the news “Every day is a gift and should be lived as one because you never know if it will be your last” he lives by that statement to this day. Now 11 surgeries later he has taken up another venture Coaching Hockey… Yes that’s right the 44 year is a level 5 USA Hockey certified coach, giving back to kids and the sport he loves. His new motto with the kids he coach's is “All in every shift leave it all on the ice!”
