The user study is designed to test the hypothesis that our proposed system is effective in helping students connect with fellows and form groups for class projects.
The participants will be randomly selected and balanced to represent populations from different geographical and cultural backgrounds, fields of study, and interests.
The participants will be recruited online on a voluntary basis.
Ideally, we will ask for users’ feedback after each round of iteration.
The evaluation method for the wireframe prototype will be conducted right after user testing.
We will collect direct feedback and make adjustments accordingly.
User Experience Survey
General Interview
Due to time constraints, we only performed evaluation on the wireframes. In order to examine the usability of our design, we asked 5 users to try out the web application. (The survey and interview questions can be found below.)
After the tests, users were asked to fill out a user experience survey, which allowed them to rate a series of features and system usability on a scale of 1 to 10. The survey was distributed through social media platforms, with responses from students with different cultural and academic backgrounds and school years. The average usability score was 7.9 out of 10, which means our website has fulfilled the basic usability demands.
In addition, a short interview was conducted after each tryout to get more insights on the general user experience and opportunities for improvements. According to the feedbacks, users generally find the web application very demanding:“I like the overall idea as well as it is sometimes challenging to find study partners for assignments.” They also liked our interface color scheme and layouts. However, some user did mention it was hard finding the option to enroll in a specific class, and suggested that “finding a class could be put at a more obvious spot.” As for improvements, some user brought up the academic honesty concerns and said it would be better if we could implement some kind of agreement that ensures academic honesty when partner with other students assignments. We also got comments saying there could be a professor mode, just as what Blackboard does.
We are grateful to have got these feedbacks and will try to incorporate them all in future iterations of the webpage. We believe that EverPartner has the potential to help students save time and find group mates of the same interests. Despite missing some features, our design was well received by participants in the user studies and was able to fulfill the basic requirement of allowing them to form groups in a more convenient approach.
