Introduction
Designed to reflect an intensive Anatomy and Physiology college-level study, Event Medical contracts with high schools throughout the nation to teach Anatomy and Physiology to future healthcare providers.
Program Description
This program includes systematic integration of the structure and function of the cells, tissues, organs and systems of the human body. The systems discussed are the respiratory system, digestive system, skeletal system, axial and appendicular musculature, endocrine system, and the integumentary system. This course also includes an overview of basic anatomical terminology, cell composition, and a discussion of the cellular membrane. Modules include discussions of anatomy and physiology of the individual systems as well as common pathology and treatments associated with each.
The laboratory component is delivered using virtual labs and interactive simulations with detailed instruction and demonstrations from an experienced instructor.
Course Outcomes
As a result of our A & P courses, students should be able to:
1) Identify and explain the function of all cell organelles
2) Explain the types of cellular transport including diffusion, facilitated diffusion, active transport, exocytosis, endocytosis, phagocytosis, and pinocytosis
3) Describe basic microscopy
4) Define and correctly use basic anatomical terminology
5) Identify the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system
6) Explain the anatomy and physiology of the digestive system
7) Describe the anatomy and physiology of the skeletal and muscular systems
8) Explain the anatomy and physiology of the endocrine system
9) Identify the anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system
Lab Outcomes:
As a result of this laboratory experience, students should be able to:
1) Practice safe procedures within a laboratory
2) Identify basic components of a light microscope
3) Define and demonstrate anatomical position
4) Differentiate between types of epithelial tissue and describe their function
5) Differentiate between types of connective tissue and describe their function
6) Identify anatomical structures of the respiratory system
7) Explain pulmonary function testing and basic spirometry
8) Describe anatomical structures of the digestive system and their function
9) Identify major bones within the axial and appendicular skeleton and understand the function of bone
10) Identify all major muscles/muscle groups within the axial and appendicular divisions and understand their function
Assessment:
Directly by: (1) Module application problems (with instructor feedback)
(2) Module quizzes
(3) Lab quizzes
(4) Cumulative final exam
Indirectly by an end of course student-completed evaluation survey
Course Format and Delivery:
Courses in the program are tailored to the needs of the individual high school. Similarly, courses can be offered synchronously or asynchronously by a dedicated Event Medical USA Instructor.
Contracts:
Event Medical USA uses the Canvas system to facilitate school/district contract and payment. Access is granted for all approved high schools that are offering our A & P courses.
