The OpenVPN community project team is proud to release OpenVPN 2.5.4. This release include a number of fixes and small improvements. One of the fixes is to password prompting on windows console when stderr redirection is in use - this breaks 2.5.x on Win11/ARM, and might also break on Win11/amd64. Windows executable and libraries are now built natively on Windows using MSVC, not cross-compiled on Linux as with earlier 2.5 releases. Windows installers include updated OpenSSL and new OpenVPN GUI. The latter includes several improvements, the most important of which is the ability to import profiles from URLs where available. Installer version I602 fixes loading of pkcs11 files on Windows. Installer version I603 fixes a bug in the version number as seen by Windows (was 2.5..4, not 2.5.4). Installer I604 fixes some small Windows issues.

Important: you will need to use the correct installer for your operating system. The Windows 10 installer works on Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016/2019. The Windows 7 installer will work on Windows 7/8/8.1/Server 2012r2. This is because of Microsoft's driver signing requirements are different for kernel-mode devices drivers, which in our case affects OpenVPN's tap driver (tap-windows6).

This is primarily a maintenance release with bugfixes and improvements. This release also fixes a security issue (CVE-2020-11810, trac #1272) which allows disrupting service of a freshly connected client that has not yet not negotiated session keys. The vulnerability cannot be used to inject or steal VPN traffic.

Compared to OpenVPN 2.3 this is a major update with a large number of new features, improvements and fixes. Some of the major features are AEAD (GCM) cipher and Elliptic Curve DH key exchange support, improved IPv4/IPv6 dual stack support and more seamless connection migration when client's IP address changes (Peer-ID). Also, the new --tls-crypt feature can be used to increase users' connection privacy.

Important: you will need to use the correct installer for your operating system. The Windows 10 installer will not work on Windows 7/8/8.1/Server 2012r2. This is because Microsoft's driver signing requirements and tap-windows6. For the same reason you need to use an older installer with Windows Server 2016. This older installer has a local privilege escalation vulnerability issue which we cannot resolve for Windows Server 2016 until tap-windows6 passes the HLK test suite on that platform. In the meanwhile we recommend Windows Server 2016 users to avoid installing OpenVPN/tap-windows6 driver on hosts where all users can't be trusted. Users of Windows 7-10 and Server 2012r2 are recommended to update to latest installers as soon as possible.

This is primarily a maintenance release with minor bugfixes and improvements, and one security relevant fix for the Windows Interactive Service. Windows installer includes updated OpenVPN GUI and OpenSSL. Installer I601 included tap-windows6 driver 9.22.1 which had one security fix and dropped Windows Vista support. However, in installer I602 we had to revert back to tap-windows 9.21.2 due to driver getting reject on freshly installed Windows 10 rev 1607 and later when Secure Boot was enabled. The failure was due to the new, more strict driver signing requirements. The 9.22.1 version of the driver is in the process of getting approved and signed by Microsoft and will be bundled in an upcoming Windows installer.

But: You picked a cloud based software that needs to synchronize with a server. You did this out of your free will. The software that you declare to continue to use is since 30 months now deprecated. This does not only mean there is no support any longer for the client. It means as well that any changes at the servers will not be reflected in your software any more.

Can you say any more about this? I have edited (maybe even created) notes since my account was provisioned with the new sync structure, and they are perfectly readable and editable in v. 6. There is just no real-time editing in v. 6, so that it would be very unwise to be working in a note there and also in the Web or mobile client at the same time. But I'm not seeing notes become inaccessible in v. 6.

This will be all legacy clients, maybe the API and some more (search index ?). Since it means duplication of all notes, I doubt this will go on forever. Once it stops, all Software not supporting RTE will be left in the cold.

Any recommended solutions if leaning towards a different (better?) platform?

I remember reading something about Evernote's CEO taking this product direction. Alienating a noted number of users from the main product release stream.

None of these features map to user's productivity (from my perspective)

From update request 398256 (pop-up window/annoyance)

"Some things to look forward to in the new clients: cloud support for all your data, new and improved sync capabilities, real-time collaborative editing, (upcoming) AI powered features and much more!"

Noting that I have no interest in these "features" - they don't help. These capabilities are otherwise very well supported in pure-play solutions. Meaning, why marshal these features in Evernote that's otherwise working very well currently.

Going from v. 6 to v. 10 in one jump is quite a departure. In the early days of v. 10, when it still lacked a lot of features, I kept using v. 6. At some point I started using the v. 10 Web client, which slowly introduced me to the new interface and helped me understand how to use it. Eventually, v. 10 became robust enough and I had learned its routines well enough, that I switched over to using it almost exclusively.

I just lost 1,5 hours of work on a project timeline in confluence (webpage lost connection and then the whole browser crashed).

Is there a windows client for confluence?

I hope that a dedicated client software would save everything at least locally so that nothing is lost even when the internet connection gets lost. In such a case a later sync would restore all the work.

Yes, the draft is empty. The "project timeline generator" (kind of a plugin?) didn't transmit and save any data during the edit process. And then everything crashed and was lost.

Is there a client?

A client side app would help if it implemented client side caching and sync capability so content is held locally until a confirmation of write to cloud has been confirmed. Also detection of lost connectivity so local cache can still manage updates until connection restored (so work is not lost).

So I'm past the 14.0 z/OS install and am searching for the latest CA SRM windows client. found the link below. not sure where I found it. Its not in the cover letter for 14.0. I can't find it on the support site. doesn't mean its not there. What's the best way to find this link (especially when it moves in the future)?

I found in the migration doc "Host setup for current customers" in "upgrade PC software" section. Step 5 says select "CA vantage SRM detailed service pack information index" link. That's not there but "CA Vantage Storage Resource Manager Maintenance Grid Index" is and under that there is a windows client link which is the one pasted above. I think that answers the 1st question. I guess the doc should be updated accordingly but I should be set for this question. 2351a5e196
