I am a Senior Manager, Economics on the People eXperiences and Technology Central Science team at Amazon. I lead teams using cutting edge causal inference and ML/AI methods to rapidly act to improve the lives and experiences of Amazon employees. Previously, I was a professor of policy analysis at the Pardee RAND Graduate School, and the co-director of the RAND Center for Causal Inference. My research focuses on health and human capital using a combination of causal inference and machine learning methods to understand the impacts and unintended consequences of policies, as well as the optimal design of interventions. I have studied the opioid crisis and the impacts of substance abuse polices; disparities in maternal and child health and personalized policy interventions; the human capital impacts of pollution; health service utilization in developing countries; child development; educational reforms; equitable responses to COVID-19, and more. I received a Ph.D. in economics from Duke University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in global and environmental health at Harvard University’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
