MAGAZINE COVER AND SPREAD
Level: Intermediate
Students may redesign an existing magazine or create one of their own. They are encouraged to design a unique masthead and to create an innovative layout.
Since this is not a writing course, appropriate text may be sourced though students often provide original text for better unity.
B. Yu "Acoustic Guitar" magazine uses illustration created by the designer
T. Hames "COPY" magazine uses an avant-garde approach. The concept of the article on styles of the homeless, is original, with photography by the designer
C. Rodriguez "Piquant", about spicy cooking, incorporates original graphics that interact with the text.
J. Pluchinotta "The Green Thumb" aimed at home gardeners creates relationships between text and image.
K. Keenan "The Strange" is speaking to a teen audience. The 'Depressed' spread takes on a challenging text runaround.
