Placement tests include the Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (PERT), Accuplacer, ACT, SAT, and CLT. Scores used for college placement must be less than two years old. SPC uses the highest scores from these tests to determine your placement in college courses.

First-year students must complete required placement tests within 30 days of accepting your offer of admission to Rutgers (unless awaiting accommodations processing by the Office of Disability Services). Students must complete all required tests to attend an academic planning and advising program and submit their course requests.

The Math Placement Tool is an online tool consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions, with a 2 hour, 20-minute time limit. It is designed to guide you into the college math courses that are most appropriate for you. The Math Placement Tool can award placement, and can be used to satisfy course prerequisites, but does not award course credit. You can access the Math Placement Tool remotely until about a week before the start of your first term, but after that, it must be taken with a proctor (either at an on-campus testing center, or through an online proctoring service).

To become an enlisted Soldier, you must be 17 years old. To become an Army Officer, you must be at least 18 years old and have a college degree obtained either through ROTC, U.S. Military Academy at West Point, or from another college or university program. Learn more about Army Eligibility Requirements and how to receive Officer training while in college.

*These courses also have a geometry prerequisite that must be separate from the placement earned by the transition math course. To meet the geometry prerequisite, the student must provide high school transcripts verifying two semesters (a complete year) of high school geometry with an average grade of a C or better and no failing grade, or the student must score appropriately on the Geometry Placement Test at JJC or earn a grade of a C or better in MATH 095 Geometry at JJC.

ALEKS PPL (Placement, Preparation, and Learning) accurately measures a student's math readiness and repairs learning loss via web-based and self-paced skill building. An ALEKS PPL account is valid for one year and provides students 5 assessments (initial and 4 retakes) in an effort to improve their placement score (if necessary). All five assessments must be completed within one year from the time the student registers for an ALEKS PPL account.

Sometimes a parent or guardian feels unable to care for a child and temporarily gives away the right to custody to a social service agency either for a short time or permanently. The agency which takes custody of a child must ask the court to review and approve that action. The parent must be given notice of this hearing and have his or her side heard in court. The law requires that when a child has been voluntarily placed in foster care for more than thirty (30) days, this hearing must take place and the parents must be told about the date of this hearing. The parents or guardian, a social worker, and a member of the agency involved should be at the hearing. The judge will decide if the placement is voluntary and necessary.

Just about everyone going to a two-year college has to take a placement test, and most students going to public four-year colleges do as well. Many private four-year colleges also use placement tests.

All first year students must take the Math Placement Exam (MPE). Transfer students are strongly encouraged to take the MPE. However, transfer students who have already fulfilled the math requirement at another institution may be exempt from taking the MPE. If this is your situation, you must bring the evaluation of your transfer credits that the admissions office sent you to Orientation as evidence that you have fulfilled the math requirement. Some majors require a specific math course. Students who are not transferring in the particular math course required by the major should take the placement exam.

It is wise to not wait. Many courses depend on math as a prerequisite. In some majors, your entire degree program may be delayed if you delay math. Also, the longer the time since your last math course, the more difficult it is to remember what you knew. Once we humans start procrastinating it is hard to stop! No special favors are available for students who wait until the senior year and then fail. Math is a requirement at Suffolk because we believe that a college educated person must know some mathematics in order to have any chance at all of understanding the world and its problems. be457b7860
