LCD 105: Introduction to Psycholinguistics: An introduction to the complexity and creativity of the human use of language, this course examines the unconscious processes the underlie the ability of producing and understanding language, as well as the processes that underlie language acquisition. Ling 80300: Research Methods in Psycholinguistics and Cognitive Linguistics: The intelligent consumer of the applied literature in linguistics—whether in experimental or developmental psycholinguistics, or in any field where the evaluation of empirical research is at stake—is well-versed in the underlying principles of experimental design, methodology, and quantitative analysis. This course imparts knowledge of such principles, by surveying a range of methods, from the familiar to the esoteric, currently in use in empirical research on language perception, production, and acquisition.

LCD 720: Teaching English Sound Structure: Introduction to the sound structure of English and applications to teaching ESL. The course surveys the predominant models about the sound system of standard North American English and establishes the value of these models in the training of teachers of English as a second language.

LCD 740: Second Language Acquisition and Teaching: Introduction to the linguistic and pedagogical theories and methods of teaching ESL. The course fosters an understanding of major theories of second language acquisition and introduces the predominant empirical approaches.

LCD 706: Bilingualism: Sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic properties of bilingualism, legal history, and educational foundations of bilingual education.

LCD 110: Phonetics: An introduction to the study of speech sounds, focusing on the inventory of sounds in English, and learning how to transcribe speech produced by adult speakers of standard American English as well as the speech of non-native speakers and speakers of a number of vernacular varieties of English.
