✈️ ARRIVAL DAY IN ROME
Important Information about Airport Transfers
Trafalgar offers courtesy transfers from Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) Rome Airport to the hotel on the scheduled arrival day ONLY. The Transfer departure times are 9.30am, 12.30pm and 15.00 sharp. These are the times the coach departs the airport. You will need to arrive a little before these times in order to get the coach at the specified time.
After collecting your luggage, please meet the Trafalgar Airport Host after customs inside Terminal 3, at Meeting point 3. Look for the column with the green sign, inside Terminal 3 as shown in the image. If you arrive into Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 please make your way to Terminal 3 and to meeting point number 3. If you have difficulty locating your Trafalgar Airport Host please call European Guest Services +44 207 620 8900.
If you should arrive outside of these times and you have not purchased a private transfer, then please make your own way to the hotel at your own expense. If you take a taxi, please ensure that it is an official white taxi from the rank just outside the Terminal building. Be careful of hawkers offering you a taxi that is not at the taxi rank, they are a scam, so please be careful. The cost of an official taxi from the airport to an inner city hotel is approximately 55.00 Euro. There are no refunds for unused transfers including when due to flight delays or missed flight connections.
Rome hotel check-in
GRAND HOTEL TIBERIO - Via Lattanzio, 51, 00136 Roma RM, Italy
🏨 Rome Hotel Check-In Information
Official check-in time: 3:00 PM
If you’re arriving on one of the early transfers, please note that your room may not be ready straight away. You’re always welcome to check at reception—sometimes you might get lucky and it will be available earlier! 😊
Better still, if you’re in early, I suggest storing your bags safely with reception, asking them to call you a taxi, and heading out to explore. A visit to the Trevi Fountain or the Spanish Steps is the perfect way to begin your Roman holiday. Both are iconic, beautiful sights, surrounded by some of the best shopping in the city. Since they aren’t included in our tour program, they make a wonderful “bonus experience” if you’re here a day or two early—or arriving early Monday morning.
🌟Please Note Colosseum Information🌟 - Tuesday 4th November the Colosseum will not be taking reservations due to a special National day. So unfortunately we will not be able to visit. I would suggest you organise to visit it yourself on the Sunday or the Monday before we meet. See information below with links to tickets and guided tours.
In the meantime, you’ll also find comfy lounge chairs in the reception area where you can relax, freshen up, or catch a quick snooze while you wait.
Here’s to a magical start in the Eternal City! 🌟

Arriving a day or two early to Rome
🇮🇹 Arriving Early in Rome? Here’s What to Do!
If you’re arriving a day or two early in Rome, here are my top recommendations for things to explore before our tour officially begins. These are independent activities, so rest assured — you won’t be doubling up or retracing any steps during our trip!
🛺 Getting Around
The best and easiest way to see the sights from our hotel is by Uber or taxi. While public buses are available, they can be tricky to navigate and are known for pickpocketing risks. For peace of mind and convenience, taxis or Uber are your best bet — and they’re reasonably priced too! There is a Metro but again it is limited by all the archealogical sights underground in Rome! Occasionally it can be good such as getting to the Colosseum from our hotel - Take a taxi to Cipro station and take metro from there to the Colosseum. You will have to change lines at Termini station. Watch our for pickpockets on the Metro!
🌟 Make the Most of Your Time
This might be your only time in the Eternal City, so make it count! Rome is bursting with treasures — from hidden piazzas and ancient ruins to charming cafés and unforgettable views. Every extra hour here is worth it.
A dazzling masterpiece of Baroque art, the Trevi Fountain is Rome’s most iconic fountain and an unmissable stop on any visit. At nearly 300 years old, its dramatic statues, cascading waters, and ornate façade make it one of the city’s most photographed landmarks. By day it sparkles in the sunlight, and by night it glows with an irresistible romantic charm.
Just a short stroll away, you’ll find the elegant Spanish Steps, another Roman icon where visitors gather to sit, people-watch, and soak up the atmosphere. The surrounding streets are lined with chic boutiques, designer fashion, and stylish shoe stores, along with cozy cafés perfect for a break between sights. Whether you’re here for tradition, style, or simply to admire the grandeur, the Trevi Fountain and its neighborhood are pure Roman magic.
An icon of ancient Rome and one of the most famous landmarks in the world, the Colosseum is nearly 2,000 years old and still stands as a breathtaking reminder of the city’s imperial power. Once capable of holding over 50,000 spectators, this massive amphitheatre hosted gladiatorial contests, wild animal hunts, and grand public spectacles that captivated ancient Romans for centuries.
Today, you can wander through its towering arches, climb to the upper levels for sweeping views of the arena and Roman Forum, and imagine the roar of the crowd echoing through its stone corridors. Standing inside, it’s easy to picture the grandeur — from the emperor’s box to the underground tunnels where gladiators and beasts awaited their fate.
Whether you’re a lover of history, architecture, or cinema (it’s appeared in countless films, from Gladiator to Roman Holiday), the Colosseum is an unmissable experience — a living link to the might and drama of Ancient Rome.
Tucked away on the west bank of the Tiber, Trastevere is Rome’s most atmospheric neighborhood—a maze of ochre-washed alleyways, shuttered windows, and ivy-draped façades. Here, the pace slows: locals linger over espresso in sun-dappled piazzas, trattorias spill onto cobblestone streets, and the golden light of dusk turns every corner into a postcard.
Unlike the grandiosity of central Rome, Trastevere offers intimacy and texture. You’ll find 12th-century mosaics in Santa Maria in Trastevere, laundry strung between buildings, and the clink of wine glasses from centuries-old enotecas. At night, the neighborhood pulses with energy, yet retains the soul of a lived-in village.
It’s the Rome of everyday beauty—less polished, more poetic.
Love to Shop?
If shopping is your thing, Rome has some fantastic streets to explore:
Via del Corso – The main shopping artery in the historic centre. It runs from Piazza Venezia to Piazza del Popolo and is lined with popular high street stores.
Via dei Condotti – For luxury lovers, this is the spot. Just off the Spanish Steps, it’s home to high-end designer boutiques like Gucci, Prada, and Valentino.
Via Cola di Rienzo – A great mix of well-known brands, boutiques, and cafes in the Prati district, close to the Vatican. A local favourite and a little less touristy.
Whether you're after souvenirs, stylish fashion, or a bit of window shopping, there's something for every taste and budget!
