Project Summary & Activities
About the project
The project is based on the evidence emerged in the analysis of European Democracy and European citizens participation and pursues the following specific objectives:
SO1: To inform and raise awareness about the foundations and challenges posed by the pandemic, digitalization, and disinformation to European democracy;
SO2: To directly involve European youth in the decision-making process and in relevant policy areas debates;
SO3: To enhance the dialogue among European youth from different Countries about topics related to European democracy
The specific objectives identified are reached within the following activities:
1. Realization of 7 informative panels about 7 identified topics related to EU democracy: election observation, new technologies (E-government), fake-news and dis-information, European Demos debate, EU Institutions, and proposals for their reformation, how to address cultural diversity in EU, the role of Civil Society in EU. This activity and the chosen topics are strictly linked to the needs of the target groups and allows the participants to acquire a better knowledge about core issues related to European democracy.
2. A bottom-up-written set of recommendations addressing the topics of the informative panels. For each topic the participants are asked of pointing out at least 10 specific recommendations which are directed to EU Institutions and the other European citizens. This activity gives the youth people the chance to express their voices and needs and to be involved in policy-making processes, which is a fundamental part of the democratic exercise. The activity responds precisely to the low perception about “how my voice counts in EU”, and to the low rates of participation to EP elections in 2019.
3. Debate sessions within the transnational events are specifically designed to provide the youth people the opportunity to discuss about EU democracy topics related giving voice also to their specific needs and perspectives. The debate is also an occasion for participants to expand their personal network with other European youth people, and finally to build a stronger transnational network among Civil Society. This approach based on bottom-up methodology and direct involvement suits with the target groups and their needs according to the evidences which will be later presented in the needs analysis. Having the chance to actively participate in the draft of a set of recommendations to be presented to the EU Institutions, but also widespread online, positively impact on that perception, making the youth feel of having an active role in the policy-making and democratic process.
