Trucks are together with the map the most important feature of Euro Truck Simulator 2. There are 7 truck manufacturers and 19 different models, all of which can be upgraded in service shops. Breakdown is 4 DAF's, 2 Iveco's, 3 MAN's, 2 Mercedes-Benz's, 3 Renault's, 4 Scania's, and 2 Volvo's.

Every truck brand in Euro Truck Simulator 2 offers at least two or more base models (as of Update 1.34). Every model has a series of options that can be upgraded by the player's choice. As you increase in level, higher tier upgrade options become available. Normally, a truck can be upgraded with the options below:

Damage is not visually simulated in the truck. It is simulated mechanically, however. Damage is simulated in five different parts - tires, cabin, chassis, engine and gearbox. Engine and gearbox damage affect truck performance as less power can be utilized with greater damage and certain gears may stop working. Chassis affects truck suspension, making it more liable to tip during hard turns. The cabin houses, the truck electrics, and increased damage leads to electrical failures in the truck. Finally, tires affect traction and handling. The more tire damage is accumulated, the worse the handling becomes in wet weather and/or loose surfaces, such as gravel. Increased engine damage also adds a chance of having an engine malfunction - which will cause failures in the truck's battery and engine, and eventually, turn it off permanently if a critical damage percentage is reached.

The player can also choose to call Emergency (via GPS - F7) at any point of the game, even while hauling a delivery. The emergency can transport the truck and cargo to the nearest city's Service Shop. This is useful in case of an unrecoverable crash, critical / total damage percent reached - or simply if the truck ran out of fuel.

Over the years, players have gone from just seeing their truck in the game have Michelin tires, to being able to choose the type of Michelin tire they want to use and having access to other branded products for decorating their truck. The next stage, if approved, would be to help show how realistic the experience is for players by focusing on the safety and longevity that Michelin brand can provide.

That deeper experience will, for instance, mean integrating real performance and safety aspects into the game. For example, rolling resistance and wet braking performance, which are highly dependent on the technology inside the tire, but also the way people inflate and maintain truck tires.

On this occasion that environment is a swathe of Europe stretching from Plymouth in the west to Wroclaw in the east, from Aberdeen in the north to Milan in the South. The tangle of motorways and major roads is stylised and condensed, but feels massive. After a splendid week of non-stop trucking the stats screen tells me I've still only seen 50% of it.

You start as a low-skilled, truckless lorry jockey, forced to take work from established haulage companies. Slowly (or rapidly if you go to a bank) you amass the funds to buy your first rig and rent your first yard. Then the fun really begins. Contract perusing, truck pimping, skill upgrading, driver hiring... this is Eddie Stobart: The Game in all but name.

When you start the game, you first buy your own truck, and begin looking for work to transport merchandise from city to city across Europe - from Madrid to Lisbon, from Lisbon to Barcelona, from Barcelona to Paris. As you advance in the game and improve your skill, the jobs you aim for will be more important, and you'll have to travel further.

Driving the truck is easy, and the different characteristics of each truck are noticeable. Also, you have a good number of camera views for controlling the steering wheel and other actions, such as strapping down the load and parking the vehicle.

Travel across Europe as king of the road, a trucker who delivers important cargo across impressive distances! With dozens of cities to explore, your endurance, skill and speed will all be pushed to their limits.

But it doesn't stop there. Euro Truck Simulator 2, in addition to all of its out-of-the-box goodness, also has a huge amount of fantastic mods. So many, in fact, that it can be a little dizzying trying to sort through each and every one. That's why we hand-picked the very best and included them in the list below. We also categorized the list by specific topics (such as AI traffic packs and truck types), so if you're leaning towards a particular area, it'll be easier to locate the file.

Jazzycat makes some amazing mods when it comes to traffic in Euro Truck Simulator 2. The link above leads to a whole host of options, ranging from loads of detailed tour buses, trucks and trailers, sports cars, and standard cars. Each vehicle is a work of art, and each of them will look completely natural on the road beside you. There are makes and models from all over the world, adding significant variety to the standard game's mix.

With this mod, you can buy your very own American classic Peterbilt 389 (available from the DAF dealer located in Amsterdam). The truck comes loaded with features, such as a wind deflector with the Peterbilt logo, a red light inside the cabin, a Viking bullbar with chains and hook, and a wide array of auxiliary lights, including parking, reverse, and turn signals. There are also four new engines to choose from, each with unique sounds.

A classic flat-nosed rig, the Volvo F10 can be bought from the in-game Volvo dealer (once the mod is installed, of course). The latest version uses less fuel, comes with oversized gas tanks, and incorporates a revised set of exhaust pipes. The chassis' V6 engine rumbles with authentic sound, and you can purchase the 8x4 motor in the shop independently of the truck.

Want some wintery paradise in your Euro Truck Simulator 2? This mod adds snow-covered roads that blend well with the chilled environments around them, creating a distinct change of pace compared to the usual summer landscapes. If you happen to have a snowy skin for your truck, this is the perfect time to use it.

This 204MB mod adds 25 distinct trailers, most of which are flat-beds with heavy-duty equipment on top, such as industrial dump trucks, farming vehicles, road maintenance gear, and building materials. This trailer pack stands out thanks to the sheer size of the hardware carried and the detail in the model design.

Think you have what it takes to drive an actual truck in Europe? This mod might be as close as you can get to doing so. With Improved Truck Physics applied, driving becomes far more challenging and realistic, and it heavily adjusts such crucial values as brake efficiency, retarder effectiveness, suspension, engine compression, flywheel resistance, and overall responsiveness.
