Travel and accommodation
Venue
TU Eindhoven is a campus university, the workshop venue is about 10 minutes on foot from the central train station (Eindhoven Centraal).
Public transport
The central train station is well connected within the city by bus services. Check here for a map of useful bus lines in and around Eindhoven. For domestic travel by bus or train, check NS. For international connections, see for example NS International and/or Deustche Bahn.
Public transport in the Netherlands has standardized ticketing using a tap-in, tap-out system. For this, one requires either a public transport card (OV-Chipkaart), or a contactless debit or credit card.
It is important to both use the same card for check-in and check-out, since by doing this the price for the journey is calculated correctly automatically, without incurring in additional charges. This system is called OVpay, and you can use its website and app to check information about your journeys.
Travel
We encourage train transport to minimize the ecological footprint of the workshop. The Netherlands are well connected within central and western Europe, within the Netherlands connections towards Amsterdam, Utrecht or Rotterdam are very frequent. A few suggestions:
Paris/London: Take the Eurostar to Rotterdam, change there for the Intercity to Eindhoven.
Berlin: Take the IC towards Amsterdam and connect within the Netherlands to Eindhoven (e.g. via Deventer). Alternatively use the ICE to Düsseldorf and connect via regional trains via Venlo, but be aware that the connection in Venlo is very short and somewhat uncomfortable.
Frankfurt: Take a direct ICE to Utrecht and connect there. It can be faster to take regional trains via Düsseldorf and Venlo, see above.
Southern Germany/ Switzerland: Connect via Frankfurt or Paris, for some locations there are also direct trains to Utrecht.
The Netherlands are also connected by sleeper trains to Basel/Zurich, Munich/Vienna and Berlin/Prague.
Eindhoven has a regional airport, within the Netherlands Schiphol airport (Amsterdam) offers the most destinations and is directly connected to Eindhoven by a frequent train service.
