Hi! I'm Eunsang Kim [Un-sahng Kim].


I am a PhD student in the Department of Sociology at New York University. 

I'm interested in Environmental Sociology, Social Policy, Economic Sociology, and Urban Sociology.

My research addresses two defining transitions of contemporary societies: the weakening of social relations in an era of individualization, and the marketization and distribution. Three questions guide my work.

First, how can collective problems be solved even in the absence of social ties, and how can social ties themselves be rebuilt through communities and social infrastructure?

Second, how does social policy reshape everyday lives of citisens? I examine the social conditions that make policy effective, in order to design more precise social policies.

Third, how does marketization take place, and what are its consequences? I trace how state policy and existing social relations shapes markets and civil society, and how valuation processes drive or constrain economic transitions.

My works has been appeared in the Environmental Sociology and Korean Journal of Environmental Sociology.
