This building was the Royal Institute of Physics of the University of Rome in the late nineteenth century. In the early 1930s, Enrico Fermi and his group — known as ”I Ragazzi di Via Panisperna” (Franco Rasetti, Emilio Segrè, Ettore Majorana, Bruno Pontecorvo and others) —conducted here their pioneering experiments on neutron slowing, laying the foundations of nuclear physics and earning Fermi the Nobel Prize in 1938. We will meet at the museum entrance in Piazza del Viminale (the original entrance on Via Panisperna is no longer in use).
