Let your child choose a Fairy Tale book (e.g. Little Red Riding Hood)
Look at the cover of the book. Spend some time talking about the cover (e.g the picture, colour etc).
Point out the Author’s and the Illustrator’s name and discuss what they mean?
Let the child read the book on his/her own.
Once read, ask questions related to story, to understand child’s comprehension skill.
Explain meaning of any unfamiliar words to build their vocabulary.
Talk about the theme and characters of the story.
Questions to ask - For example:
(a) Name some of the characters from the book?
(b) Who is your main character in the story and why do you think it so?
Ask your child to retell the story on his/her own
An in-depth discussion of the story book - Little Red Riding Hood:
(a) What is the moral of the story?
(b) What do you think about talking to strangers or sharing info with someone unknown?
(c) What is your opinion of the little girl going alone to see her grandmother?
Listen to another version of the story on the right and discuss if there are any differences between the two versions.

Encourage him/her list down some of the important ideas about the topic.
