Choreographer | Neoclassical & Contemporary
Mimmo Miccolis is an Italian freelance choreographer and educator working internationally between Europe and North America. His artistic voice is defined by the integration of classical structure and contemporary physical research, creating works that are emotionally charged, socially engaged, and musically rigorous.
For twelve years, Miccolis was an integral part of The Washington Ballet, serving both as faculty and resident choreographer, and for eight years he collaborated closely with Akhmedova Ballet Academy, contributing to the development of pre-professional dancers within a highly structured institutional environment. He now works independently, expanding his artistic research across disciplines, cultures, and performance contexts.
He is currently Guest Choreographer for Brussels City Ballet and Vancouver Ballet Society (Canada), and Artistic Director of TraLì, a sensorial and transformative project where contemporary dance merges with a raw, instinctive reinterpretation of Southern Italian pizzica and live music. Developed in collaboration with Veronica Calati and Massimiliano De Marco, TraLì explores embodiment, identity, and collective connection through movement, rhythm, and tradition.
Miccolis has collaborated with renowned composers including Emmy Award winner Blake Neely, Jerod Tate, Francesco Germini, Masterfrenc, Francesco Lanzillotta, and JP Wogaman II, enriching his choreographic work through diverse musical perspectives and interdisciplinary experimentation.
Many of his creations address pressing social themes and have been performed at venues such as The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, The Washington Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Oklahoma City Ballet, TEDx, World Bank Headquarters, National Portrait Gallery, the Embassy of Italy in Washington DC, Villa Firenze, Kirov Academy, Inter-American Development Bank, OSCE, European Commission Joint Research Centre, Cody Gallery, Camden Fringe Festival, and the Bernie Grant Arts Center in London.
