Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) is a premier government-funded institution for higher technical education in India. Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) along with the support of the Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine (MFCEM), and the Centre for Environmental Science and Engineering (CESE) have formed an interdisciplinary alliance to steadily climb new milestones in the direction of regenerative medicine and healthcare. The alliance aims to work towards the development of engineering-based healthcare solutions. These departments host extensive research facilities and infrastructure to support the upcoming research advancements. Simultaneously, they bring experts and young minds to one platform through several webinars, conferences and workshops to discuss the research advances and experiences to create new research opportunities.
Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology
This Futuristic Medical School at IIT Kanpur is being named after distinguished alumnus of the institute, Shri Rakesh Gangwal, for his generous contribution towards the institute. The Gangwal school of medical sciences and technology (GSMST) is going to be the first of its kind in the country with the potential to create an impact on society and the economy on a local, national, and global scale. With the technological expertise of IIT Kanpur and one of the best Innovations and Incubation Ecosystem, the setting up of the medical School will complete the MedTech system at IIT Kanpur.
The Medical School will be the confluence of IIT Kanpur’s faculty, cutting across the disciplines built on the backbone of a super-specialty hospital, research prowess of bioengineering department, and various centers of excellence. The clinical training in the hospital and simultaneous research training in science and engineering labs will boost the research ecosystem and target key problems in the global healthcare. Among the different center of excellences, Center for Orthopaedics and Prosthetics is aimed at setting up world-class research and technological developments in the domain of orthopaedic applications.
