Every day, thousands of small business owners across Kenya wake up, open their shops, and run their businesses with tools that were never built for them. Paper notebooks. WhatsApp screenshots. Cash drawers with no records. ETR machines that jam. POS software designed for London or New York, patched and sold here as if it fits.
It doesn't fit.
Veira was built to fix that.
Why We Built This
Kenya's small businesses are extraordinary.
A mama mboga who tracks KES 40,000 in daily transactions in her head.
A hardware owner managing 2,000 SKUs with a handwritten ledger.
A restaurant in Eastleigh running three shifts with a WhatsApp group as the order management system.
These merchants are not unsophisticated.
They are underserved.
When KRA introduced eTIMS ,the electronic tax invoicing system ,it became clear that the compliance burden was falling hardest on the people least equipped to handle it.
Merchants were being asked to integrate government software into businesses that had no POS system at all.
The tools being sold to solve this were either too expensive, too complicated, or simply not built for the Kenyan context.
We saw a gap.
We saw an opportunity.
And we saw people.
Real business owners being left behind.
So we built Veira.
Veira is an AI-powered POS and business management platform.
It runs on Android on your smartphone or on a dedicated handheld POS device and it works even when the internet goes down.
At its core, Veira does three things:
It handles your compliance automatically. Every sale generates a KRA-validated eTIMS receipt and transmits it to KRA in real time.
When you are offline, receipts queue and sync the moment connectivity is restored. You never touch the KRA portal. You never worry about fines.
It gives you visibility into your business. Inventory, revenue, payment reconciliation, staff activity — all tracked and updated in real time.
At any moment, you know exactly where your business stands.
It gives you intelligence, not just data. Veira's built-in AI doesn't just collect your numbers it reads them and talks to you.
It tells you what is selling, what is sitting, when your peak hours are, and what you should reorder before you run out. In plain language, in the languages your team speaks.
