Writer and Principal Lecturer
I'm a French writer and scholar. I've lived in the Netherlands since 2011, and before that in Lebanon, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and the United States, which is a roundabout way of saying I've spent most of my life watching how the same message changes shape as it crosses a border.
I write and teach about propaganda and public diplomacy, the Middle East, cinema, science fiction and superheroes. These look like separate subjects but are the same subject: how societies imagine themselves, who does the imagining, and what it costs everyone else.
I teach at Erasmus University Rotterdam, train diplomats at Clingendael, and direct CHIFT, a research community that uses science fiction to think seriously about the future. I've been interviewed about all of it in nine countries, and I'm always glad to talk to journalists.
