Join me, Rarindra, in August 13st-21th 2025 for a photography trip to Ethiopia's Omo Valley, capturing the vibrant culture, striking landscapes, and timeless traditions of its diverse tribes. With 4-6 participants to go.
I T I N E R A R Y
Day 0 : (AUG 13) Arrival day for participant in Addis Ababa, Bole Airport. Hotel transfer and hotel check-in.
Day 1: (AUG 14) Addis Ababa - Jinka - Turmi (130 km Gravel, 2 Hours)
Participants are expected to arrive in Addis Ababa one day earlier. Stay one night,
After breakfast, take a flight to Jinka.
Stop at Besha Restaurant for a quick refreshment.
Travel one hour to Keyafer to photograph the Bena tribe's unique high-stick walking and body painting.
Continue to Turmi for the night.
Overnight: Buska Lodge
Day 2: (AUG 15) Turmi - Karo Dus - Turmi (75 km Gravel, 1.5 Hours)
Depart at 5:00 AM for Kara Dus.
Spend the day photographing the Kara tribe at Dus village, the camping site, and Korcho village.
Breakfast and lunch will be prepared at the camping site, with dinner served back at the lodge.
The Kara tribe is known for their stunning body chalk paintings and traditional activities, including dances and farming along the Omo River.
Overnight: Buska Lodge, Turmi
Note: Activities may change to include local tribal ceremonies, such as bull jumping. Additional charges of $20 per person may apply.
Day 3:: AUG16) Turmi (Market Day)
Visit Omo Valley’s largest weekly market, bustling with Ari, Tsemai, Hamar, and Benna tribes. Capture street photography, portraits, and colorful scenes.
Evening: Visit Hamar villages to photograph their unique customs, including women’s intricate bead necklaces and the traditional "Evangadi" (full moon dance).
Overnight: Buska Lodge, Turmi
Day 4 (AUG 17) Turmi - Arbore - Turmi (180 km Gravel, 5 Hours)
Travel to the Arbore tribal village in the scenic Weito lowlands.
Photograph Arbore women, known for their dark skin, shaved heads, and colorful beads.
Overnight: Buska Lodge, Turmi
Day 5 (AUG 18) Turmi - Kangaten - Turmi (70 km Paved, 1 Hour Each Way)
Depart at 10:30 AM to visit Nyangatom villages in the Nakerman district.
Photograph Nyangatom women with their vibrant bead necklaces and men with scarification and clay hair buns adorned with ostrich feathers.
Overnight: Buska Lodge, Turmi
Day 6 (AUG 19) Turmi - Omorate - Turmi - Jinka (Gravel, 1.5 Hours Each Way)
Depart at 5:00 AM for Omorate, home of the Dassanach tribe.
Cross the Omo River bridge and photograph the Dimi ceremony, a significant event honoring daughters for marriage.
Capture scenes of village life, including cooking, grinding corn, and herding livestock. Return to Jinka for lunch.
Overnight: Jinka Resort
Day 7 (AUG 20) Jinka - Mursi - Jinka (120 km Gravel, 4 Hours)
Spend the day with the Mursi tribe in Mago National Park.
Photograph their iconic terra cotta jewelry, large lip plates, and unique hairstyles.
Breakfast and lunch will be prepared by the camping team.
Overnight: Jinka Resort
Day 8 (AUG 21) Jinka - Addis Ababa - Departure
After an early breakfast, transfer to Jinka Airport for your flight to Addis Ababa.
Spend the day at Best Western Hotel before your evening flight home.
Trip fare: USD 2,850

What to Bring
Photography Gear
Camera Body: Bring a backup for peace of mind.
Lenses: 24-70mm and 70-200mm are ideal. Adjust based on your style—wider or longer focal lengths may suit you better.
Godox Triggers: Xpro, X2T, or X1T.. And it is optional to bring flash.
Light Tripod: Optional, ideal for landscape enthusiasts.

Travel Essentials
Passport: Ensure it’s valid for at least six months before departure.
August is considered as the end of of rainy season into hot weather. Weather It is expected that not wet but also not hot. Proper shoes, sunscreen, traveling hat are recommended to carry along
