Early Life and Background

Ethan was born in 1995 and raised on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Growing up in a multicultural household, he holds dual citizenship in the United States and France. His upbringing emphasized commitment, leadership, and community engagement. His parents built a successful hospitality business in New York City, setting a daily example of discipline and business focus that influenced his professional direction.

Early Education and the Foundation of Legal Curiosity

He attended the Bronx High School of Science, where he was actively involved in athletics, running track. He was also a key member of the school’s mock trial team, which won a state championship. These early experiences helped spark his interest in law and public advocacy.

He began his college education in New Orleans, where he joined local community programs and worked with a nonprofit organization that mentors young boys who have lost their fathers. He later transferred to complete his undergraduate studies and received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Law in December 2017.

Formative Legal Experience

Before starting law school, he worked in both legal and judicial settings. He served as a paralegal at a business immigration firm on Wall Street, gaining firsthand exposure to high-stakes legal procedures. At the same time, he interned for a judge in the New York County Supreme Court Civil Branch, learning the judicial process from the inside.

These roles offered early insight into both the litigation and administrative aspects of the legal field, preparing him for the next phase of his career.

Legal Education and Public Service Focus

In 2018, Ethan enrolled at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. There, he joined the Cardozo Mediation Clinic, where he facilitated the resolution of civil and small claims disputes in New York courts. This hands-on experience strengthened his understanding of alternative dispute resolution.

Attorney Ethan Ruby also worked as an Associate Editor for the Cardozo Arts and Entertainment Law Journal, where he further developed his legal research and writing skills. His legal training included internships at multiple organizations focused on legal assistance and public defense, deepening his commitment to service-based legal work.

Building a Career in Labor Law and Insurance Defense

After graduating from law school in May 2021 and passing the New York Bar later that year, he began practicing in labor law, negligence defense, and insurance litigation.

Ethan started his legal career as a Law Clerk at a firm handling personal injury and general negligence cases. In this role, he drafted litigation materials, managed discovery, assisted with depositions, and negotiated settlements with insurance providers.

In December 2021, he joined another law firm as an Associate, where he focused on defending labor law and general negligence claims on behalf of construction and insurance clients. His responsibilities included drafting substantive motions, managing complex discovery, reviewing medical records, and communicating directly with clients.

In January 2023, he moved to a new firm, where he took on a larger caseload involving labor law and tort matters. These cases often carried high financial exposure and required detailed analysis for risk transfer. He regularly handled court appearances, depositions, motion arguments, and site inspections.

Current Role at National Claim Services

In September 2024, Ethan transitioned to National Claim Services LLC, a division of CRC Insurance Services, as a Senior Claim Specialist. This role allows him to apply his combined legal and insurance expertise to manage claims involving Labor Law, bodily injury, property damage, and construction accidents.

In this position, he works closely with outside counsel, insured parties, and investigators. He manages claims from initiation through resolution, evaluates liability, develops litigation strategies, and pursues resolutions through mediation, arbitration, or trial when necessary.

Professional Credentials and Continuing Education

In addition to being admitted to practice law in New York, he holds licenses as an Independent Insurance Adjuster, Certified Public Notary, and Real Estate Salesperson. He regularly completes continuing legal education (CLE) to stay current with changes in legal and insurance practices.

Personal Interests

Outside of his professional life, he enjoys skiing, playing basketball, and visiting national parks when the opportunity arises.
