Ethan Colling (Class of 2025) is an exceptional talent as a baseball player, but it’s his natural character that sets him apart beyond his abilities. As a freshman Catcher on a well-stocked roster of experienced Westfield catchers in the classes ahead of him, Ethan has thrived in developing his game on the JV Green level during his freshman and sophomore years. The opportunity to take so many reps and be trusted as a game manager behind the plate has greatly benefited him as a leader within the program.
As his coach, it was very evident early on that Ethan is incredibly smart, coachable, and eager to learn. Even in the midst of learning the game, he is able to lead his peers through his play on the field and through his demeanor. Ethan has the uncanny ability to lead by example in exhibiting power at the plate or gunning down potential base stealers at a high rate while also being an encouraging presence amongst his teammates in the dugout. He makes baseball fun to play alongside his teammates and it’s a joy to coach him, as well. He’s shown mental toughness and a knack for overcoming adversity in keeping a positive mindset when day-to-day injuries pop up or when we have a tough day on the field. Ethan is well-grounded by his wonderful family that has shown him immense support in his athletic career to this point and I know will continue to do so. With all this being said, Ethan Colling would be a tremendous asset to any baseball program at the collegiate level both as a player and as a driver of team culture.
