In this chapter, the artificial woman Matilda Doyle — Tildy — rises further as a star, earning her first interview on live television. The nature of her existence is unbeknownst to her, as she believes she is an actress from the 1950s, who recently woke up from cryo-sleep. The man who found her, Levy, helped create her, and is now acting as her agent and romantic interest. Can she adapt to the modern age and ascend to fame? And can Levy develop their relationship — and her reputation — without her finding out her life is a lie?
Chapter One of Wendy, Dawning - Dream A Little Dream of Me
Published Thursday, April 30, 2026 in Cave Writing Magazine.
"Seven days before her eighteenth birthday, she dreamed about Peter Pan. That dream she remembered so starkly, that when she woke up, she wondered whether or not she might still be dreaming. His eyes were green as seaglass pressed up against the bark of a tree—a rich brown hiding beneath some translucent gem. He got very close to her face, the tip of his nose brushing against hers, enough that she could count each and every freckle on his face. He seemed so real to her. He did not look like the sort of Peter Pan she would’ve imagined while she was awake. Wendy couldn’t remember if he’d said anything to her in the dream, only that when she woke up, she could still see his face when she closed her eyes."

“After heart attacks and cancer, car accidents were the third leading cause of death. For a professional athlete, a healthy young woman like Josephine Lorraine, a car accident was statistically the most likely thing to get her killed.”

"Spurred on by a simple Instagram post, I decided to undertake writing all of my friends' letters (stone cold sober) to tell them how much they mean to me."
Sober Love is a creative nonfiction essay exploring my personal journey with platonic love, detailing my decision to write letters to each of my hometown friends.
Ethan Andrew is an eighteen-year-old transgender man who has lived across four continents, and is an aspiring novelist studying creative writing at the University of Iowa as well as being a fiction editor on Ink Lit Mag during fall 2025. His unique views as a world traveler and advocate for all LGBTQ+ identities are prevalent in his work, which delves into topics that range from grim to bizarrely entertaining. He has been nominated for College of Southern Nevada’s New Voices contest for the first chapter of his novel and recently had the sixth chapter published in Cave Magazine. As a cancer survivor, his ‘grab life by the horns’ mentality pushes him to accomplish as much as possible now rather than later as he seeks to complete the planned duology and publish more projects before graduating at just twenty years old.
In the year 2194, there’s only so many ways for a down-trodden, low class man like Levy to survive. For him, killing people is just a means to an end. Being a hitman is a lonely occupation, so when Levy’s friend Sax offers to make him a woman, how could he refuse? As a murderer, philanderer, and general asshole, Levy’s ideal match is far from perfect. In fact, he’d prefer her to be just as morally reprehensible as he is. What happens when you let a woman like that loose in the world, and what will she do when she finds out she’s not real?

"It seemed ironic that, in the weeks leading up to her eighteenth birthday, Wendy Isla Lovett began dreaming about Neverland."
When Peter Pan returns to the average world only to discover he's shown up in the wrong Wendy's bedroom, he decides it's time Neverland had some fresh meat. Wendy Lovett - not quite ready to grow up herself - is convinced to go along when Peter promises he can return her the very same night, no matter how much time she spends there. As she befriends Peter and discovers the true nature of Neverland, Wendy is forced to reckon with her preconceived notions of him, the island, and childhood itself. Is it time for the dawn of a new age in Neverland? Refusing to fit into the role of a previous Wendy, she intends to release the island from stagnation through the wild, reckless spirit of youth.
"In the three months after she’d stabbed her fiancée’s hand with a fork, Tildy had done a great manner of things. The first was to lock herself in the apartment that she and Levy had shared and come to terms with the fact that she wasn’t a real person."
Directly following the events of The Ideal Woman, the woman herself - now loose in the world - intends to explore the nature of her being, and discover who her own ideal match is.
Breakups are bad in the best of times, and worse in the end of times.
