It is important to deal with the immigration formalities before entering Switzerland and to prepare several documents.  

ETH information on their website regarding visas.  You need to read the information very carefully before beginning the process.  

"Once you have been accepted by ETH for your mobility stay, you will receive an official confirmation of acceptance and further information on entry and residence permit. Apply for your visa only after you have received the relevant information and the official confirmation of acceptance from us. "
