Mar 2026: Construction of the turbulence box facility was completed and marked with a lunchtime pizza celebration. The facility has been in the works since Fall of 2024. The assistance of many undergraduate and graduate students is gratefully acknowledged, including: Nicholas Weisse, Abhinav Dhanuka, Mason Rinkel, Gavin Coffer, Aimee Wucherer, and Mongjae Ko. Huge congratulations to Ph.D. student Narayan Guragain (picture left) who built the entire box from start to finish!
Jan 2025: Dr. Moaven joins the lab after completing his Ph.D. from Auburn University in Dec 2024 working with Prof. Brian Thurow. Dr Moaven is an expert in experimental laser diagnostics of fluid flows with emphasis on plenoptic imaging. At Illinois Tech, he will develop 3D particle tracking capabilities for turbulent flow experiments. Welcome, Mahi!
Aug 2024: Assistant Prof. Douglas Carter (co-PI) is participating in a 3.9 million dollar Multi-University Research Initiative grant from the United States Office of Naval Research (ONR). The effort is lead by Illinois Tech Prof. Louis Cattafesta III (PI)Â to study the impact of high-sea states on wings in ground effect. The four-year grant is in collaboration with Johns Hopkins University (co-PI Prof. Rajat Mittal), the University of Virginia (co-PI Prof. Frank Lagor) and the University of Maryland (co-PI Prof. Cecilia Huertes-Cerdeira).
