SPEECH | 28 FEBRUARY, 2025
Madam Prime Minister,
Madam Speaker,
Madam President,
And Honorable Members,
In 2024, I was nominated to be your president by the Council of Ministers and during the 2024 election, I was elected as your president. It is truly an honor to be your first president and have the mandate of the people to deliver on. Less than two months ago I was inaugurated to start the next seven years as your president. For the next seven years, we will have a robust and transformative agenda that we will be delivering on for the people.
Again, it is my honor to deliver the State of the Union. This evening, I will outline my legislative agenda for the next year.
Honorable Members,
In the next year, I hope to see a resurgence of prosperity and wealth in Westdom. We will bring sweeping changes to ensure an opportunity economy for everyone. An opportunity economy will ensure that no one is left behind when the gains are felt. You will see a resurgence of people getting back to work. We have a bold target of one and a half percent unemployment. When unemployment is down everyone will begin to feel the impacts of making more money. Our goals may be bold, but they are achievable in the long term. We have seven years to accomplish what we have set out to deliver.
Honorable Members,
Over the past ten years, we have seen a steady decrease in our living standards and a resurgence in poverty. We were at one percent in the past ten years and that has risen to five percent. This is troubling I know, but it can be dealt with. I want to lay out a framework that allows for a new policy that can curve the rates we currently see. In the next few years, you will see the poverty rate drop back down to one person and an increase of people working again.
Honorable Members,
We have seen an increase in violence in the past few years. This is very concerning for my administration. Therefore, our next priority is to increase national security funding over the next ten years. This may be a robust target, but the impacts will be widespread. You have already seen crime down four percent in the last year than during the past twenty years. This is due to the funding we have invested into the budget to fund safety programs. We have also expanded the Intelligence community to become a reliable source of intelligence gathering and dissemination for all.
The creation of the Intelligence Community was the biggest overhaul of the intelligence in this nation's history. The closure of the State Intelligence Office (SIO) and the move of the IC brought back two thousand jobs to our economy. This change will affect the next generations and generations to come by providing them the transparency they deserve from the government.
Honorable Members,
We are at a turning point for this country as we step into the next seven years. You can shape the government you want to see. As you may know, we have not reached the projected defense spending that was proposed in Fiscal Year 2024 (FY2024). Meaning now, we have a surplus of funds that need to be spent in the next few years. I have heard from you. You the people want more resources and we have heard you. I have proposed a twenty-five percent increase in funding for social programs.
Today, I ask you Honorable members to pass the “General Funding for Social Programs Act of 2025” (“An Act 2025 Proposing the Increase of Funding for Social Programs") This will deliver on the promises of a twenty-five percent increase. This will ensure we have the tools that are readily available to help those in need.
Honorable Members,
As the political landscape changes over the next seven years, we must be prepared to act at a moment's notice. We need the proper tools to be able to ensure the safety of our citizens.
I urge you, Honorable Members, to increase defense funding to sustainable levels. With this, I want to state that we will boost defense spending to four percent of GDP by 2030.
Honorable Members,
As I close out my address to all of you this evening. I want to leave you with the most impactful things I have learned from you. As I have proposed my vision for One Nation, One Hope. We still have our work cut out for us as we take the knowledge that we have seen in the address accumulated to create a better society altogether. I can not do this alone. I need every one of you to help us deliver on our shared vision for the future.
Honorable Members,
I thank you all for joining me this evening for this impactful address.
