The Creators

Yi is a Ph.D. candidate at Western University in London, Ontario. He is in the Curriculum Studies region and his research interest is in education technology, gamification, and game-based learning.

In 2012, he left his family and career in China and attended the M.Ed program at Brock University. He made this significant big move because he believes that education is the best way to distribute the valuable intellectual properties of human beings to the next generations.

Now his family has expanded to four members. He and his have two sons, Isaac, who is five years old, and Ivan, who is one year old. His sons almost made him change his research to early childhood education.

This is his fourth course in the MET program and the experience has been very helpful towards his dissertation.

Mel is a Communications instructor at Niagara College, in Ontario. She teaches introductory level research and essay writing courses. Before moving to Canada, she was a secondary English and ESL teacher in Texas for 8.5 years.

Mel is a lifelong learner who has pursued continuing education, college and university level studies in Canada, México, and the U.S., and hopes to study abroad again in the near future.

She has a diverse set of interests that include horticulture, sustainability, photography, music, and cooking. She is obsessed with bugs and birds and her garden. This is her first semester enrolled in the MET program, and she's taking 3 courses.

Sarah is a teacher at Vancouver College, British Columbia. She teaches Science 10 and Chemistry 11 in the senior school.

In the past ten plus years, she has implemented various forms of technology into her classroom making learning interactive and meaningful. She intends on applying what she learns in the MET program in her teaching while collaborating with her colleagues.

Outside of the classroom, Sarah is very passionate about music. She used to be a piano teacher and now conducts the liturgy choir at her school. She has a 14 months old son and 3 fur babies at home. This is the 8th to 9th courses she is enrolled in. ​
