Reflections

In the wake of the pandemic, testing on site became impractical and institutions scouted to find alternate means for testing. In my case, what started basically as as an endeavor to find a suitable product for testing online, has turned into a genuine interest in the products in the market.

My objective and evaluative study initially of products in this area, transformed into deep research and analytical study of the market for English proficiency testing. I choose to analyze this English language testing product of Duolingo of all the existing ones. In the process, I was intrigued by the magnitude and expanse of information and the ventures in this field. Yet, I discovered there is always something glaringly deficient in most of the products in market, and that can be bridged by adopting a clear vision and the means to incorporate change when it is needed. That elasticity in the scope of the product sustains its productivity.

In the process of attempting this analysis I think I have learnt a lot, and I developed a clear idea about what an ideal language testing product ought to be. I have worked in this area of language testing as an instructor, content writer and administrator and obviously, my future projects will likely be to venture into this field. This analysis has certainly evolved my thinking and outlook.
