Who Uses AI Learning Partners?
While educational institutions may adopt or implement AILPs, the primary users are learners, educators, and professionals who interact with them every day.
Research suggests that AI systems designed as learning partners can improve learner confidence, motivation, collaboration, self-efficacy, and metacognitive awareness (Kim & Baylor, 2006; Zhou et al., 2025). Rather than providing answers, these systems encourage learners to think, receive feedback, and monitor their own learning over time (Fan et al., 2025).
AILPs can provide additional support across many educational contexts. For example, multilingual and EAL/ESL learners may benefit from personalized language practice, immediate feedback, and low-risk opportunities to communicate, making conversational AI particularly valuable for language learning (Belda-Medina & Calvo-Ferrer, 2022).
