The Energy and Thermochemistry (ETC) Laboratory is one of the research units in the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Bandung Institute of Technology. Led by Dr. Firman Bagja Juangsa, we explore various pathways to achieve a net-zero world with a multidisciplinary research approach, bridging thermodynamics, fluids, chemistry, and materials in proposing solutions toward sustainable energy in our society.

Advancing chemical-looping (CL) for inherent carbon capture and high-purity hydrogen production. We specialize in the full development cycle of thermochemical processes, moving from fundamental numerical simulation to experimental lab-scale prototyping.
Advanced CCUS
Focus: Capture & Mineralization
Optimizing Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) by developing low-energy absorbent alternatives. We pioneer mineral carbonation pathways, exploring diverse feedstocks and industrial byproducts to permanently sequester CO₂ in stable mineral forms.
Power System Dynamics
Focus: Flexibility & Grid Integration
Enhancing the operational flexibility of thermal power plants to support renewable energy integration. Using high-fidelity tools like Hysys Dynamic, Dymola, AVEVA, and Thermoflow, we simulate and optimize plant dynamics for the transition to non-carbon fuel systems.
