About Etawah Safari Park

Etawah Safari Park (formerly Lion Safari Etawah) is a drive-through wildlife safari park in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, India and one of the biggest in Asia with a perimeter of 8 km. The Safari is being established in an area of 350 hectares. Lion safari and The Lion breeding center are situated on the outskirt of Etawah City. Etawah Safari Park has a lion safari, a deer safari, an antelope safari, a bear safari and a leopard safari. Along with Safaries, It also has two Vijayanta tanks of the Indian Army along with an steam locomotive at display. It also has a 4D theatre, which gives you real close-ups with wildlife.

With the projection of first phase of 1000 acre (400 ha.), 400 acre are allocated for Lion Breeding Center and Lions Safari and remaining 600 acre are in the surrounding of reserved forest, has been planted and covered with various species like Panchavati trees (Banyan, Amalaki, Ashoka, Bael and Pipal),Neem (Azadirachta Indica), Shisham (Dalbergia Sissoo), Pipal (Ficus Religiosa), Kala Shisham (Dalbergia Latifolia), Banyan (Ficus Bengalensis), Pakar (Ficus Lacor), Bel (Aegle Marmelos), Mahua (Madhuca Indiaca), Kadamb (Anthocephallus Kadamba), Siris (Albizzia Lebbeck), Acacia auriculiformis and tamarind species in outer area of the Lion Breeding center and Lion Safari.

The entire area 400 ha. (N26046’1101”E78059’46.2” and N26046’50.1”E78059’22.9”) are fenced and after a lot of hard work and employment, the area are transformed for suitable environment for Lion and other animal the replacement of exotic Prosopis by suitable native species. Selective removal of the exotic is supplemented by sowing of seeds of indigenous grasses shrubs and tree. Soil conservation and Forest conservation are also the major focusing area.

According to approved Master Layout Plan and Master Plan, The Breeding Center, Veterinary Hospital, Animal Houses, Interpretation Center, visitor amenities, staff facilities and office etc. are developed and created the facilities of international standard in near natural condition wherein the population of the Asiatic Lion can be furthered through captive breeding. Conservation awareness is promoted through the Lion Safari and Nature Interpretation Center during the development of Etawah Safari Project.

Construction of the Etawah Safari Project started way back in May 2012 during the Government of Akhilesh Yadav, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and work was done under the supervision of U.P. Housing & Development Board. The wildlife officials entrusted with this project visited Longleat Safari Park, England for inspiration. When the construction started, it was the toughest terrain to work upon. There was no flat Land, thousands of bumps. But with the immense dedication, the Team brought this project on Ground.

The Brilliant Construction and Grandeur of the Etawah Safari Park are appreciated by the Spanish architect Frank Biddle to the skies. The govt. body Central Zoo Authority of India (CZA) is the responsible for maintenance of Etawah Safari Park .
