Indian Maritime University is a Central University established on 14th November 2008 under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways. IMU has consistently produced top-tier maritime professionals from their campuses at Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Visakhapatnam. It has 4 schools: the School of Maritime Management, the School of Marine Engineering and Technology, the School of Nautical Science and the School of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering.

The School of Maritime Management offers lucrative programmes that equips students with industry-relevant professional skills. In 2009, SMM introduced MBA programmes focusing on International Transportation & Logistics and Port & Shipping Management in accordance with IMO guidelines. It offers one-of-a-kind BBA degree in Logistics, Retailing & e-Commerce since 2017. The School also offers MS (by Research) and PhD in Maritime Management. The 13th edition of Estuary organised by the Indian Maritime University (IMU) Chennai Campus, is a prominent national-level intercollegiate management fest held over two days.
