Criteria for Selecting Essential Outcomes
Reeves (2002) has offered one set of criteria that teachers might use to distinguish between what is nice and what is essential for students to know:
- Endurance - long term knowledge
- Leverage - applicable to many academic disciplines
- Readiness - prerequisite knowledge for the next level of learning
- Is regularly assessed on provincial exams
Outcomes meet most criteria in order to be essential.
