Uttarakhand became the 27th state of the Republic of India on 9th November 2000. Area of Uttarakhand is 53,483 sq.km and Dehradun is its capital. Uttarakhand is mainly separated into two divisions namely Garhwal and Kumaon. Each division and each district of Uttarakhand has its own charm.

PROPOSED DISTRICTS OF UTTARAKHAND
In November 2000 Uttarakhand was created as a new state and it inherited 13 districts. Since then no new districts have been created while other newly created states have almost doubled the number of new districts for rapid development. There is a widespread demand for creating more districts in Uttarakhand. As of now, no additional districts have been added to the state, below are the details of proposed districts of Uttarakhand.
In 2011, elected BJP government proposed the creation of 5 more districts. These proposed districts were Ranikhet, Roorkee, Kotdwar, Yamunotri and Didihat.
In 2016 - elected INC government proposed 6 new districts of Uttarakhand, namely, Kashipur, Roorkee, Rishikesh, Gairsain, Ramnagar and Narendranagar.
The other frequently proposed districts include Gangotri, Chakrata, Haldwani, Dharchula, Karnprayag, Tharali, Tyuni, Thalisain, Ghastoli, Milam, Dugtu, Syaldey, Munshiyari, etc.
