Day 6: Essential Software

Learning Goals:

1) Use OBS Studio (or Streamlabs) to record gameplay.

2) Use Twitch.tv to stream gameplay through OBS Studio (or Streamlabs), while managing scenes, cameras, and other elements.

3) Use Battlefy to join or host a tournament with a bracket and game client integration.

Deliverables:

1) Record gameplay using OBS Studio (or Streamlabs). Use elements such as scenes, masks, filters, green screens with chroma-keys, and more to spruce it up.

2) Setup a team or personal Twitch.tv channel and try your first stream by integrating it with OBS Studios.

3) Find a tournament your students could potentially compete in on Battlefy

4) Post your video, stream, and tournament find on the Discord channel.

A good microphone, green screen, webcam, and lighting are all helpful hardware, but you can get started without them if needed.

Getting started is easy. Making it look good takes some effort. Being able to read comments, chat and entertain guests, and play well simultaneously is inhuman.

I recommend trying this process at least once internally before hosting a big event. Minor SNAFU's will occur.

Remember to hop on over to our Discord server and check out the Lesson 6 prompt. This week you'll be sharing what you've learned in the form of your first VoD attempt, scene setup, and more! I've also shared one of my better VoD's to date, which coincided with my first ranked match.

Once you're up and running with a stream, check out this great video on Shoutcasting.
