What Is Roku And How Does It Work?
Roku is a device (developed by the Roku company) that transmits media (games, movies, and even music) from the Internet to your TV. Provides an effective and affordable way to add online streaming or expand online, TV and home theater viewing experience.
Roku requires minimal setup and connects to the internet in the same way your PC does. Roku media streaming devices include an operating system (OS) that allows users to access and manage online streaming content.
How many Roku devices are available?
Roku Box: This option is a stand-alone box (similar to Roku Premiere) that connects to the Internet via your broadband channel via Ethernet or a Wi-Fi connection. The Roku Box can connect directly to your TV or home theater receiver via HDMI (such as a DVD or Blu-ray player).
Roku Streaming Stick: This option is a compact device slightly larger than a USB flash drive, but instead of plugging in a USB port, plug it into the available HDMI input for your TV or home theater receiver. The streaming stick has built-in Wi-Fi to connect to a broadband channel.
Roku TV: Roku TV is an all-in-one solution that does not require external inbox or attachment to access online streaming content as the Roku app is already built into the TV. The TV connects your broadband router via a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. Types of TVs that offer Roku TVs in their product lines include Hisense, Hitachi, Insignia, Sharp, and TCL. Roku TVs come in several screen sizes, and 720p, 1080p, and 4K Ultra HD versions are available.
