THE PURPOSES
English for upper intermediate students has learning objectives to ensure that students can:
Independently and confidently use English to achieve communication goals in both spoken and written forms across three types of texts: narrative, exposition, and discussion. This is integrated with the four language skills at a B2 CEFR level. At this level, students are expected to:
Understand the main ideas of complex texts on both concrete and abstract topics related to current issues or other subjects.
Interact fluently and spontaneously without significant difficulty.
Produce well-organized and detailed texts on various topics, explaining opinions and viewpoints, including the pros and cons of different options.
Develop 21st-century skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and digital literacy.
Become global citizens who uphold Pancasila values, emphasizing the Pancasila student profile, including being pious, independent, critical thinkers, creative, collaborative, and embracing global diversity.
LISTENING
Students comprehend the main ideas and detailed information of complex listened texts, on both concrete and abstract topics on events in their surroundings, current issues, or topics relevant to other subjects in the curriculum in narrative, exposition, and discussion texts.
READING
Students comprehend the main ideas and detailed information of complex written texts, both on concrete and abstract topics, in print and on screen or digital, single or multiple, on events in their surrounding, current issues, or topic relevant to other subjects in the curriculum in narrative, exposition, and discussion texts.
WRITING
Students produce texts with a clear and detailed structure of organization on different topics and express ideas or opinions on certain issues or topics in narrative, exposition, and discussion texts. The text shows strengths and weaknesses or arguments for and against different choices or opinions.
SPEAKING
Students interact fluently, spontaneously, and in a structured manner without hindrances to communicate orally in narrative, exposition, and discussion texts.
