In Chapter 7, Las Almendras, Miguel planted the rosebush that was outside of Esperanza's ranch, the one that Papa planted for her. This made Esperanza feel happy, her mother said to her "that Papa's heart will find you wherever you go." Esperanza went to the Jamaica festival the following night with Isabel. She sees Marta and her friends surrounded by a bunch of people and she yells about how the workers are being treated like meek, animals who have no choice. Marta and her group are planning on going on strike after cotton season and they are trying to recruit people to join them. Esperanza and her mother say prayers for those who need it and her mother says an extra prayer for Esperanza to be strong no matter what happens.
