Now that you have read the brief introduction to Esperanza Rising, you know that at the start of the book, Esperanza is living in Aguascalientes, Mexico. It is the early 1900s, and Esperanza is six years old. It is important to understand the setting of the book. This means that as a reader, you must take time to get comfortable with the time and place in which Esperanza and her family are living. This will help you to better understand Esperanza's life and struggles as you continue to read.
Your Assignment:
Today you will be working in groups of three. These will be new groups assigned in class. Click on the image that corresponds with your initial group that you were assigned prior to reading. Each group will be directed to watch a video that provides background on a historical event that happens in Esperanza Rising. Your job is to become an expert on your event because you will be explaining this information to the other members of your group.
